Utah Gathering... Woodland Hills Style

Many thanks to Scott Stratford for arranging a 2007 Woodland Hills reunion which was held at the Woodland Hills chapel. Many attended, but there were others who had conflicts or were not able to make the trip from out of state. A few of us decided to organize a Woodland Hills gathering in Utah! The date that we picked is January 17th, 2009 - 5 pm.

For now, our reunion is tentatively planned to take place in Highland, Utah at the home of Monte Kingston. If we have sufficient numbers, we will look at an alternative location - probably at a nearby Church.

We would love to see our old friends! I don't mean old, as in old... but old, as in... you know what I mean.

Please RSVP as soon as you can, so that we can let others know who will be coming. Since it will be at my home, I guess I will be the 1st to RSVP - I think I can make it. :)

Send your RSVP, along with the number of people that will attend from your family, to: 1cougar1@comcast.net - also, if you can attended, tell me 3-4 of your favorite songs from the 70's. I will be creating a compilation of music for the reunion - no, Bob Nevers, this is not a dance!

I have set up a section for you to post your various family BLOGS. I really don't blog, but my oldest daughters do (I am getting help with this site, as you probably guessed). You will need to send me your BLOG links and I will add them to the BLOG link section (right side of the page). This is for all Woodland Hills alum - particularly those of us that were in Woodland Hills during the 1970's. If you can't make it, please update us about you and your family.

Feel free to call me, or email me, with any questions. My cell phone is: 801-360-7615.

What fun it was!

Here are some of the pictures that were taken at the reunion. If you have some pictures that you took, and would be willing to share them, send em' to me! I will post them. I will label these pics later, when I have more time... I just wanted to get them downloaded so that you could see them.

Look at us now!

Here are a few of the photos that were sent, and a few that I stole from your blogs (don't send me to jail, my intentions were just). If you haven't sent a family photo, it is not too late, I will add them when I get them.

Enjoy!

Those who send their regrets...

Many have emailed and said that they wish that they could join us. Here are a few of the comments:

Dan and Belinda Oborn - We are very sorry that we are going to miss this fun reunion you have planned! Dan already had scheduled to take the Priests up to Big Bear for the long weekend. Thanks for rememberin us and we hope to make it next time. Have fun!

Ron and Lenette Pike -Have a GREAT Time! sorry we will not be coming. Love, LP

Christine Minson Francis - What a fun suprise to get your e-mail. I had no idea you all were planning this particular reunion. It sounds like a great idea. I am trying to see if I can make it. January is always a catch up month for me and my best friend is coming the following week, so I'm not sure I can swing two great things in row. Marc and I have four children. Chris - 27 married to Sarah is back at U of Michigan Law school. Sarah is doing a master's in Social work. He has accepted a job with a large law firm in LA -- Gibson and Dunn. Lachelle is my next and she got married this year. She looks the most like me. I've enclosed a picture of Marc, myself, Lachelle and her husband Manasseh. He is a graphic Arts major at BYU, graduating in 2010. Lachelle is a public health major, graduating in April. She is my bohemian girl. Then my third is Jacqueline. She is 20 and people tell her she looks like Kira Knightly. She is at BYU-I, currently majoring in Fine Arts. She is my artsy girl. My youngest is Geoff, 14. He loves waterpolo and is a great kid.

Marc works as a General Counsel for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. We lived in CT for about 6 years, Oregon for Law school and Orange County for 6 years and now we've been here in San Diego for about 7 years. I've been able to stay home and do the Mom thing for the whole time. I feel really blessed. My folks live in Wyoming right across the street from Dave and Sue and in my sister, Geri's back yard, practically. Steve and Julie are still in Saugus. Karen and her family live in Mesa. Ron and Lynette live in Tenessee and my youngest brother, Rob lives in Mesa.
So if you get a chance, drop me a little catch-up line.
Take care of yourself,

Kevin Smith - I'd love to come say hi to the old Woodland Hills homies, but work & church obligations are going to prevent my heading up to Utah this time. Its great that you are organizing this. I'll try to give you a call next time I head to Utah and maybe we can catch up. And if you ever yourself in San Diego, give me a call.

Mark Kincannon - What a great idea!!!!! I would love to be able to make it, but between not being able to get clear from work and not able to get anyone brave enough to babysit my dog it is a tad tough....Do you know if anyone ever converted to disc any of the old movies that we had at the first reunion....ie the games, road shows etc??also it would be great if the photos from the reunion were put on disc, sort of like a scrapbook for those of us not able to come.....Anyway, hope all is going well...

Becky Pike Brooke - Thank you for the invite. I will not be able to attend. Sadly missing both reunions.

Sheri Stratford Erickson - I am definitely interested in staying on the list for any future emails. Our boys are big into wrestling, taking after their dad, and we have a big tournament the weekend of the 17th. We'll be thinking of you and wishing the best. Look forward to the possibility of attending next time! Take Care!

Tami Gleave Milovich - It's me Tammy Gleave Milovich..Randy just forwarded your email regarding the reunion..It sounds FABULOUS but unfortunately I won't be able to make it..It sounds like a great time will be had by all!

Rich Graff - My wife and I will be in Utah the for 3 days after Christmas. We will not be able to return for 17th. We have only been home here in Texas for 3 month from our mission to the Dominican Republic, and just this past week received a call to serve as Mission President in Jamaica starting July 1. Keep us up to date on everyone and everything. My email is
grafftx@yahoo.com tell tell everyone we wish we could see them. If anyone visits Jamaica in the coming 3 years get a hold of us. Have a great time.

Laurel Redd Feddock - What a great thing you are doing. My family and I will not be making the trip from the San Francisco area. Do try to have fun without us!

John Moffatt - It is great to hear from you. What a wonderful event you are planning. It will be a blessing to so many. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to Utah for the reunion. Will you pass on my love and best wishes to all there? We were all so fortunate to grow up with a such a fine group of core friends. I will continue to monitor your blogs and emails. It will make me feel a little more like I'm with you all.

Gail Shepley Adair - Very fun to think back to high school in Woodland Hills. I couldn't make the LA one, and I doubt I'll be able to make the Jan. 17 one in Utah. It sounds great tho! I've been in contact with Robert Gutierrez and have kept in contact with Michelle Gingrich Rice. I have a married son and daughter in law living up at Wymount Terrace, graduating in April. Another daughter graduated from BYU about 5 years ago. No others from my family, but lots of my kids friends and Kent has a son Ian at BYU now.

Cynthia Woolley Compton - Chad and I, along with our two daughters, live in Laie, HI. We moved here in 1992 to teach at BYUH. Our girls are 16 and 11, and great fun. I teach history part time and Chad teaches International Cultural Studies. The last social I went to when we were in Woodland Hills (one of many good memories of our time in Woodland Hills II)was a surfing party at the beach, and I wished I could learn how to surf. Still don't surf, but I love going to the North Shore and watching people surf there. Plus there is no finer place to slog than in the deep sands of Sunset Beach. We love the ocean, good food, gardening, the local farmers' market, traveling, friends, family, and life in general. My parents live in St. George and several siblings live along the Wastach Front, so we get out to Utah about once a year (If you have the reunion at Christmas time or in the summer, we might be able to make the next one--hint, hint). Thanks again, Monte, for organizing the website and the reunion. Such great memories of our time in Woodland Hills II. Wish we could come.

Ron Lawler - It seems like every time these reunion are planned I am out of the town. In the future if you can accommodate MY schedule I would appreciate it. :):) Sorry I will miss it again.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I hope all is well for you and your families.

Mari Bench Staker - How fun. I can't come in January but wish I could. Glad you are taking the initiative. Will enjoy viewing the blog and please keep me on the email list - you never know, my schedule may change.Hope all is well. Hello to everyone.

Ilene Lawler Ellsworth - We won't be able to attend the reunion in Utah, but we salute you for planning the event! We will be in Utah for Thanksgiving and extend our good wishes for a successful and rewarding get-together in January! Good for you and the other Utah Woodland Hills members in Utah!

Jill Shepley Culbertson - It was fun reading your blog. This is Jill Shepley - we (Gail, Kent) were in Woodland Hills in '73/'74 for about 1 1/2 years. We all made some great friends down there and have many wonderful memories of basketball games, and parties and dances and just hanging around. Here's the Shepley rundown - Kent lives in Huntington Beach and works for Honda. He has 3 children. I have 4 kids and have lived in Pleasanton CA for the last 25 years. I'd love to make the reunion but work and family take all of my free time. Gail lives in Morgan Hill CA. She has 5 children, the youngest in middle school. I'll pass on your e-mail to both of them. Thanks for organizing this - I'm sure it will be great. Jill

Looking for lost friends...

There are a few friends from the past that I have not heard anything about from anyone. One of them is Greg Melcher. Does anyone have any knowledge of where Greg is these days?

If you are wondering of the whereabouts of anyone from the Woodland Hills 70's era, post a comment here and let us see if we can fill in the blanks!

Favorite Woodland Hills memories...

I have some great memories from the time that I lived in Woodland Hills. Many of those memories are focused around particular events in my life, but which have friends attached to them. We did live in a different time, but I remember riding all over the valley on my 10-speed bike - to Chatsworth, Fallbrook Square, Topanga Plaza, etc... We ventured far from home on many occassions.

One particular memory I have, which was shared with many others, was the World Record basketball game - 111 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds (do I have that right?). The humor of Steve Ganzel (sp?) kept the game from getting too boring.

What are some of your favorite memories from those days?

Keeping updated with friends...

In order to keep updated with where we are, family status, locations, etc... I will post family updates for anyone that sends me their information. If you include a picture(s), I will post them as well.

First update.... drum roll please!
